HELPFUL INFORMATION ON IMPORTING YOUR NEW RV
This is a great time to buy an RV from the US! Prices across the border are usually lower, especially on Recreational Vehicles and North Trail RV Center has the knowledge, experience and inventory selection to get you your chosen RV with NO hassles! We will guide you through the entire process and save you thousands of dollars on the RV of your dreams.
Purchasing your new RV in the US and importing it back home to Canada is really quite simple. When Canadians buy an RV from North Trail RV Center we will prepare all needed documents and send them directly to their specific Port of Entry/Canadian border location 72 hours prior to them arriving there. We have helped hundreds of customers import their motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels and campers into every Canadian province including Alberta, Quebec, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
RV IMPORT DOCUMENT GUIDE
Recall Clearance Letter
North Trail RV Center will provide this "No Recall Letter" from the manufacturer. Recall clearance indicates the absence of any safety defect on your vehicle that would be identified by the manufacturer as posing a potential safety risk to the vehicle’s operator, occupants and public at large unless corrected. You must have this document in order to pass the federal inspection. This must include the vehicle identification number for the RV being purchased.
Buyers Order or Bill of Sale
Required anytime an RV is sold or transferred between a seller and a buyer. Shows the vehicle identification number and the purchase price of your RV. This must be signed, and the original will be needed for the Canada border agent to calculate the goods and services tax from the amount of the purchase. You will show this, along with the other documents mentioned here.
Title or Manufacturers Certificate of Origin (MCO)
North Trail RV Center will provide you with the title (if it's a used RV) or the MCO (if it is a new RV). Show this to the agent at the border. This along with the buyers order, proves ownership of the RV you are trying to import into Canada. You will need to have this document to verify and prove that ownership has been transferred.
Vehicle Inspection
You are responsible for taking your RV to Canadian Tire for an inspection within 30 days after you bring the RV across the Canadian border. Be sure to take your "No Recall Letter" and other documents with you to your appointment.
When you arrive at the border you will need to stop by the United States side first to make sure there is nothing needed for the US border agent. Then you will proceed to the Canadian border agent's office where they will ask you for the paperwork we have supplied to you. They will then inspect the RV to make sure the VIN matches and have you fill out an import from. After you have completed the RV import form, they will collect the goods and services tax and the Canada Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RVI) of $195 CDN. You may use a credit card as payment for the taxes and fees (this may change any time), but we recommend you have an additional source of payment available. Please note: motorized vehicles have a 72 hour waiting period before you enter Canada, all trailers and non-motorized vehicles have NO waiting period.
The
Canadian Registrar of Imported Vehicles
(RIV) has a great website outlining all the necessary steps and documentation required. Again, we will supply you with all the paperwork you will have to cover the import fees.
The complete import process is outlined step-by-step on this website:
